Meetings, meetings, meetings

Met with the Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada today to try to advance the possibilities of ongoing cooperation between our two countries today. It was my first encounter with the new ambassador and I was very impressed with his knowledge and performance. I reallythink that we will be able to create a win-win situation for Canadian employers in sectors with skills shortages and for underemployed Eastern-European workers.

I also met with the good folks at Cactus my internet solutions provider. Hopefully our whole site will go live before Christmas...exciting.

And, lastly, I met with my colleagues at the Paerson Peacekeeping Centre who are putting on an excellent model peacekeeping mission at the Canadian War Museum in March of next year.

Trident International Congratulates Federal
Government’s efforts to address labour shortages

OTTAWA, November 17, 2006 — Taras Zalusky, President of Trident International Business Solutions Inc., today congratulated the Government of Canada on the recently announced improvements to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program facilitate the process to hire foreign workers when there are no domestic workers able to fill vacant positions.
“The shortages of workers in Alberta in the construction, and oil and gas sectors have been acute. The Conference Board of Canada released a study earlier this year indicating the there will be a shortage of 332,000 skilled workers in Alberta alone over the next decade. The decision by the Government of Canada is not only welcome, but necessary,” said Mr. Zalusky. “The improvements announced, while overdue are welcome and will facilitate the process and eliminate red tape for companies seeking to hire temporary foreign workers.”
The Canadian Government announced this week a fast track process to create regional lists of occupations under pressure and measures to cut the recruitment wait time for employers for these occupations. They have also committed to providing better information for those who need to hire temporary foreign workers. And finally, the Temporary Foreign Worker unit in Calgary is now fully operational to provide advice to employers seeking to employ temporary foreign workers.
"Temporary Foreign Workers are an important piece in addressing the skills shortage problem facing Canada,” said Zalusky. “Any strategy adopted to deal with this looming labour market crisis will need to deal with i) attracting people from across Canada in the skilled trades to Alberta; ii) increasing the training and participation of workers with lower historic participation rates; and iii) attracting highly skilled foreign workers through immigration and the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) program. This is a great first step.”

Trident International is a full service human resources agency that specializes in the recruitment, screening, and placement of Temporary Foreign Workers from Eastern Europe (Poland, Russia and Ukraine) for the construction industry, the oil and gas sector as well as the hotel and tourism industry.
